MARSHFIELD PIONEER CEMETERY

 spritedown

The Marshfield Pioneer Cemetery is located in Coos Bay, Oregon.

The address is 750 Seventh St. at the intersection of Ingersoll.

Many of the people important to development Coos Bay area

are buried in Marshfield Pioneer Cemetery

adjoining Marshfield High School.

It was the area’s primary burial site from 1891-1930.

Unfortunately, over years, its condition has steadily deteriorated.

Please consider joining for our bi-annual workdays in May and October.

Past events and images may be viewed here.

Celebrating Memorial Day

For Memorial Day, Marshfield High School students will again mark the graves of the veterans buried in the Marshfield Pioneer Cemetery with a flag and emblem that denotes the conflict in which they served. Please contact us with information about veterans not currently identified to insure that all veterans receive proper recognition. The graves of 48 Civil War veterans are scattered throughout the cemetery.  Other veterans served in local Indian Wars, in World War I with the Spruce Squadron, and in World War II.

A list of veterans buried in the cemetery is available here.

"IF THE DEAD COULD TALK"

. . .they could tell many stories about their lives

. . .as the first white woman to come and live in Coos Bay,

. . .as the builder of the fastest clipper ship in the world,

. . .as a victim of a tragic shipwreck,

. . .as a veteran who served our country during the Civil War.

 IF THE DEAD COULD TALK

. . . would they reprimand us for not caring about the cemetery,

. . or thank us for preserving their final resting place?

Can you help tell the stories?

Can you share information about the people buried in the cemetery?

Do you have remembrances about visits to the cemetery?

Can you help us gather information, so that we can apply to have this special place listed

on the National Register of Historic Place?
